The British Columbia Institute of Technology, commonly known as BCIT, is a public polytechnic institute located in Burnaby, British Columbia. The technical institute boasts five campuses strategically situated in the Metro Vancouver region, with its main campus centrally located in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Additionally, there are various campuses available, including the Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond, the Marine Campus in the City of North Vancouver, Downtown campus in Vancouver, and Annacis Island Campus in Delta. The College and Institute Act grants provincial charter to this organisation. The school functions as a vocational and technical institution, providing apprenticeships for skilled trades and offering diplomas and degrees in vocational education for technicians and professionals in various fields such as engineering, accountancy, business administration, broadcast/media communications, digital arts, nursing, computing, medicine, architecture, and law.
BCIT was initially founded as the British Columbia Vocational School in 1960. At the time of its establishment in 1964, BCIT’s Burnaby campus had an initial enrolment of 498 students. In 2017, the number of full-time students increased to 18,755, while the number of part-time students reached 30,593. Since its establishment, the institution has proudly nurtured a community of more than 125,000 accomplished graduates.
