Cranfield University is a renowned British institution that focuses on postgraduate education and cutting-edge research in various fields including science, engineering, design, technology, and management. Cranfield University was established in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics (CoA). During the 1950s and 1960s, advancements in aircraft research paved the way for expansion and diversification into various fields, including manufacturing and management. As a result, the Cranfield School of Management was established in 1967. In 1969, the College of Aeronautics underwent a significant transformation. It was renamed the Cranfield Institute of Technology, incorporated by royal charter, and granted the authority to award degrees, ultimately becoming a university. The current name was adopted in 1993.
Cranfield University operates from two campuses, one located in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, and the other at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham, southwest Oxfordshire. The IMRC, an Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre at Cranfield University, is a project that receives funding from the EPSRC. It focuses on conducting research to tackle the challenges outlined in the UK government’s High Value Manufacturing strategy.
The Cranfield University campus offers a range of excellent facilities, including a sports centre with a fitness centre, aerobics studio, playing fields, sports pitches, and tennis courts. There are two small shops on campus, one operated by the CSA and the other by Budgens. During mealtimes, there are only a few eateries available, including two Costa Coffee outlets and one bar operated by the CSA. However, please note that the bar is only open on select days from Monday to Friday.
