Diablo Valley College (DVC) is a public community college located in Pleasant Hill and San Ramon in Contra Costa County, California. Diablo Valley College is one of three public community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District, alongside Contra Costa College and Los Medanos College. It was established in 1949. Diablo Valley College boasts an impressive student body of over 22,000 and a dedicated faculty comprising 300 full-time and 370 part-time instructors.
Established in 1949, Diablo Valley College was originally known as East Contra Costa Junior College. With a student population exceeding 22,000, the college operates on two separate campuses.
Diablo Valley College is known for its strong connections to the University of California, Berkeley, California State University, East Bay, and St. Mary’s College. Diablo Valley College is one of the top five transfer colleges in California. In 2004, the most popular transfer destinations included California State University, East Bay, San Francisco State University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of California, Davis.
Diablo Valley College provides a range of occupational specialties such as hotel/restaurant management, culinary arts, dental technology, and real estate. The school boasts a dynamic speech and debating team.
Diablo Valley College provides a variety of sports for both men and women, such as basketball, cross country, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, baseball, football, lacrosse, track and field for men, and soccer, softball, and volleyball for women.
Willie McGee, the great was a baseball player for Diablo Valley College in 1977, and went on to win a National League MVP award in 1985. Doug Davis, a former pitcher, also had a career in the major leagues spanning from 1999 to 2011.
Demarshay Johnson, the great former Diablo Valley College basketball standout who later played for the University of Nevada, earned the title of California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) first team All-State following the 2004–05 season. During that season, he dominated the CCCAA in blocks with an impressive average of 5.2 per game, earning him the title of Bay Valley Conference MVP.
The DVC Viking men’s lacrosse program, established in 2008, was the first junior college club in California. In 2013, Diablo Valley College emerged victorious in the California Junior College Lacrosse Association (CJCLA) championship.
