The Glion Institute of Higher Education, known for its expertise in hospitality management, operates campuses in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Owned by Eurazeo, a private equity firm in Paris, and a key component of the education group Sommet Education.
Founded in 1962 by Swiss professors Walter Hunziker and Frédéric Tissot, the school known as the Institut International de Glion started with a small class of 15 students from diverse backgrounds. Located in Montreux, Switzerland, the school was established on the grounds of the former Grand Hôtel Bellevue. The courses were initially taught in French, attracting students from five different countries.
In 2013, Glion expanded its presence by establishing a new campus in London, situated within the prestigious grounds of the University of Roehampton. In 2016, Glion was acquired by Eurazeo, a multinational private equity firm headquartered in Paris, France. Glion is part of the hospitality education group Sommet Education.
