Green River College is a well-established public community college located in Auburn, Washington. Green River College has a rich history, dating back to 1945 when it began as a programme of adult evening education under the Auburn School District. The school received approval to transition into a community college in 1963 and subsequently introduced technical and professional programmes in September 1964. Green River College was initially situated near the Auburn Boeing plant, but it was later moved to its current location on Lea Hill. In 2014, the school underwent a name change from Green River Community College to Green River College and also introduced the Bachelor of Applied Sciences degree.

Green River College has a renowned international programme. In the autumn of 2014, GRC proudly welcomed more than 1,700 international students from 64 different countries. This impressive number solidified its position as one of the top 10 community colleges in the United States in terms of international enrollment. According to self-reported data from Fall 2007, there is a 43% male and 57% female student population. The student population is composed of various racial and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting a diverse community. Around 35% of students who graduate from GRC are awarded an academic associate degree, while 7% obtain a vocational associate degree. In 2014, Green River College introduced Bachelor of Applied Science degree programmes. During the 2017-2018 academic year, Green River awarded a total of 1,586 degrees, with 118 of them being bachelor’s degrees.
