These programmes are available in both German and English. Boasting an impressive enrollment of over 130,000 students, International University of Applied Sciences stands as the largest state-accredited university in Germany for the summer semester of 2021. Furthermore, it holds a prominent position among the world’s largest universities.
International University of Applied Sciences was established in 1998 as the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef / Bonn (IFH), and its inaugural class began in the winter semester of 2000/2001 with 23 students.
International University of Applied Sciences received institutional accreditation from the German Science and Humanities Council in July 2009, which was later renewed for another five years in 2021. In 2010, it joined the German Rectors’ Conference.
In mid-2013, International University of Applied Sciences merged with Adam Ries University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, another private university, to broaden its range of programmes and embrace the dual study model. In March 2016, it formed a merger with the University of International Business and Logistics (HIWL) in Bremen, expanding its offerings to include dual study programmes at this location.
The name was changed to IUBH International University of Applied Sciences in October 2017. In March 2021, a rebranding occurred, resulting in the new name of IU International University of Applied Sciences. In 2019, the university’s registered office was relocated to Erfurt.
The university has received state recognition since 1999 and has been accredited by the German Science and Humanities Council in 2009 and 2021. The study programmes and the university’s internal quality management (“system accreditation”) are also accredited by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) on behalf of the German Accreditation Council.
The university is sponsored by IU Internationale Hochschule GmbH, which has been the sole shareholder of Career Partner GmbH since 2007 (now IU Group N.V. since 2021).[7][8] The British investor group Oakley has owned the latter since 2017. Before that, it was under the ownership of the Munich-based investment firm Auctus from 2007 to 2015, and the U.S.-based Apollo Group from 2015 to 2017.
The university is governed by the rectorate, the senate, and an advisory board that represents the professional interests of the departments and companies.
