Loughborough University, located in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, is a renowned public research university. With an extensive background in 1909, Loughborough Technical Institute initially prioritised practical skills that could be directly applied in the real world. Since then, it has evolved into a prestigious university, continuously adapting to meet the needs of modern education. In March 2013, the university made an exciting announcement about acquiring the former broadcast centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as a second campus. The institution’s annual income for 2022–23 amounted to £369.1 million, with a significant portion of £48.3 million coming from research grants and contracts. This was balanced by an expenditure of £339.1 million. Loughborough University’s primary campus is located in the town of Loughborough. Not to be missed are the Bastard Gates, generously donated by William Bastard, the Chairman of College Governors, serving as the official entrance to Rutland Hall. Standing proudly in the central quadrangle of the campus is a renowned cedar tree, often regarded as a symbol of the university. In December 1990, a heavy snowfall caused the upper canopy of the tree to collapse, resulting in the loss of its distinctive shape. Loughborough University received the prestigious title of University of the Year 2019 in The Times and Sunday Times University Good University Guide. Loughborough has the distinction of being one of just four universities, alongside Bath, Oxford, and St Andrews, to have achieved the prestigious title twice. Loughborough University has achieved an impressive 5th place in the Good University Guide rankings. Loughborough University was awarded the prestigious title of university of the year at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2018. In the 2020 ranking exercise conducted by Times Higher Education, Loughborough secured an impressive 59th position in the global rankings for the Best ‘Golden Age’ Universities.
