Description
San José City College (SJCC) is a well-regarded public community college located in the vibrant city of San Jose, California. Established in 1921, San José City College is situated in the charming West San Jose neighbourhood of Fruitdale. The college was established in 1921 and began accepting students in September of the same year. San José City College has a long-standing history as one of the oldest colleges in the California Community College System. In 1953, the San José Unified School District assumed control of the college’s operations from San José State University. In the same year, the college relocated to its current location in the Fruitdale neighbourhood of West San Jose. In 1958, the college underwent a name change to “San José City College.” Voters within the San José-Evergreen Community College District showed their support for campus improvement by passing bond measures in 1999, 2004, and 2010. These measures led to the construction of impressive buildings such as the César E. Chávez Library, the Science Complex, Carmen Castellano Fine Arts Centre, and the SJCC Student Centre. These modern facilities provide students with access to state-of-the-art technology and resources. The campus of San José City College is situated in the vibrant neighbourhood of Fruitdale, in West San Jose. The area is defined by Bascom Ave on the west, Leigh Ave on the east, and Moorpark Ave on the north. Some of the impressive buildings on campus include the César E. Chávez Library, the Science Complex, the Student Centre, Carmen Castellano Fine Arts Centre, and the Technology Centre, among others. San Jose City College is proud to be the host of Jagsports. We have recently implemented a $1.7 million capital improvements plan that includes the addition of a state-of-the-art weight and fitness training complex. This facility is now accessible to all students and is equipped with top-of-the-line weight and cardiovascular equipment.
