Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is a renowned public research university in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. Established in 1970, it aims to showcase the Malay language as a language of knowledge. The university was founded in response to Abdul Kadir Adabi’s opposition to British colonisation in 1923. The sponsoring committee, led by Syed Nasir Ismail and Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, advocated for the establishment of UKM. The university has two health campuses, one in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Cheras, known as the UKM Medical Centre. UKM also has a network of seven research stations, including the Tasik Chini and Langkawi Geopark. The university has three founding faculties, offering study programs in various fields. The university has an impressive alumni list, including Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Malaysia’s first astronaut Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, academician Syed Hussein Alatas, and the 12th Inspector-General of Royal Malaysian Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
