CSUS, also known as California State University Sacramento, is a public university located in Sacramento, California. Established in 1947 as Sacramento State College, it is a proud member of the esteemed California State University system.
California State University Sacramento has an annual enrollment of around 31,500 students, with 31,573 students enrolled in Fall 2021. In addition, its impressive alumni network exceeds 250,000 individuals[10], and the university grants an impressive 9,000 degrees each year. California State University Sacramento provides a wide range of academic programmes, including numerous bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, teaching credentials, and doctoral degrees.
The campus spans across 305 acres (123 ha) and boasts a lush landscape adorned with more than 3,500 trees, with an additional 1,200 trees found in the University Arboretum. California State University Sacramento boasts a prestigious site on the National Register of Historic Places, namely the Julia Morgan House.
In 2012, California State University Sacramento was designated as “Tree Campus USA” by the Arbour Day Foundation. Sacramento State meets the criteria to be recognised as both a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and a potential Asian American Native American Pacific Islander serving institution (AANAPISI).
California State University Sacramento is structured into seven academic colleges and a college of continuing education, showcasing its commitment to providing a comprehensive educational experience. The university is also part of the consortium that operates Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, providing educational programmes in the field of marine sciences. The university is strategically leveraging its location near a thriving electronics industry to pioneer innovative ways of utilising technology for widespread computerised and televised instruction across Northern California.
California State University Sacramento has achieved a significant strategic milestone. Sacramento State has introduced Destination 2010, an ambitious initiative aimed at enhancing academic programmes, improving student facilities, and fostering a more inclusive and inviting campus atmosphere. During that time, the campus successfully completed several major construction projects, including the impressive four-story Academic Information Research Centre, the largest parking structure in the CSU system with 3,000 spaces, the modern Hornet Bookstore, the state-of-the-art Eli and Edythe Broad Athletic Fieldhouse, and the convenient American River Courtyard residence hall with 600 beds.
In the fall 2019 semester, California State University Sacramento received an impressive 44,733 student applications, setting a new record for the university. In line with a CSU-wide pattern, the university has experienced an increase in the number of applications in recent years.
The campus attracts a significant number of new students every academic year, making it a popular choice among California Community College transfer students.
Sacramento State has a long-standing commitment to enrolling high-achieving students from California high schools. Out of the total number of applicants for fall 2018, a significant percentage of 72.5% were accepted as freshmen. This demonstrates a favourable acceptance rate for the incoming students. Enrolled freshmen typically achieved a high school GPA of 3.4.
In the autumn of 2018, Sacramento State accepted 11,248 out of 13,578 transfer student applicants, resulting in an acceptance rate of 82.8%. The GPA for transfer students in autumn 2018 averaged at 3.2.
Approximately 30% of incoming freshman choose to reside in the dormitories on-campus. In the fall of 2012, approximately half of the incoming freshman hailed from the Sacramento Region. Another 18% joined us from the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area, while 13% came from the scenic Northern CA Foothills. The rest of our diverse student body came from Southern California (14.4%), other parts of the United States (0.8%), or even from foreign countries (0.4%).
Sacramento State offers a diverse range of social and academic clubs and organisations. Both are committed to fostering connections among students who share similar interests and ambitions. There are numerous opportunities available for you to get involved. They frequently serve as representatives for a wide range of organisations, spanning national, international, local, and regional levels. Some individuals also advocate for the promotion of various cultures, multiculturalism, and engage in political and recreational activities. Student Organisations & Leadership is responsible for overseeing clubs and organisations. In the autumn of 2012, around 7% of male undergraduate students, which is equivalent to 774 students, chose to join fraternities. On the other hand, approximately 5% of female undergraduate students, totaling 725 students, decided to become part of sororities. This resulted in a combined number of about 1,500 Greek members, making it the largest class in history.
